Whenever I need a breather, after reading heart-crushing novels, it's either I turn to Chick-lit genre for some feel good stories or, my favorite, Archie Comics! This copy has been given by my friend,Cookie (Thanks again!) when she had her vacation.
In book 2, I've met characters, some new, and some I was familiar with because there were a few pages of them on the comics I've read before. New faces like Ginger, whom I believed is the alter-ego of Archie, though I'm not sure if she had two love interests in her life.
I've also met Wilbur, Archie's contemporary whom I've learned made his appearance 3 months before Archie did.Like Archie, this boy's heart belonged to two pretty girls who suspiciously resembles Betty and Veronica. Well, I think there should only be 1 Archie Andrews that should exist, thank you very much.
Then there's Pat the Brat who reminded me of Dennis the Menace. Believe me, while reading the pin-ups, I doubt he wanted to be menacing, I think he's misunderstood, poor boy.
And last but not the least, one of my fave characters, because of her passion for Fashion. Katy Keene herself! I rememebered an Archie Comics issue wherein, readers can design an outfit for her and mail it for the design to be featured in the comics. Since I'm not much of an artist, sorry but I don't think I have the guts to show my design (boo-hoo). Anyways, I've noticed how Katy would always daydream about her outfit on her stories.
Book 2 brought together stories starting from the 1940's up to 2010 and the present. The stories and drawings, I consider a treasure. Who would've thought I would be able to see and actually enjoy a comic from the 40's? Not to mention the behind-the-scenes anecdotes of the creators. I am excited for Book 3, and all I can say is, no one could really beat Archie Comics' success.
p.s. Pin-Ups above to show mentioned characters are not included in the book. Credits to the uploaders.
