While everyone was talking about this book, I was busy hoarding YA and Chick-lit novels. However one day, due to stress at work, I decided to go to the bookstore and this book winked at me. It finally got my attention and I told my self I'd buy it, anyways, the Author's Filipino.
The plot was simple, which I think made it 'different' from what authors have been writing now, since it has become a trend that for readers to get hooked, there should be shocking or mind blowing revelations or the book should be dystopian, etc. This book is basically about an ugly (she thinks she's ugly, because of her large forehead, pimples and not-so-silky-straight hair) girl who's an orphan, living with her relatives who needed a job and one day she found one in a mansion where the schoolmate she hated, lives. Cinderella story, yes. Typical, yes. But for me, it's refreshing to just read the story in one sitting (it took me a couple of hours to finish it), and laugh your heart out. There were grammatical and typhographical errors but I waived it away because the lines of the characters were so funny, I thought it's Vice Ganda (a famous Filipino comedienne) talking to me. She goes to school for the rich, just because she got a scholarship wherein she are friends with Chad, a guy she met in her Aunt's resto, who was stood up by his date, and Lory, the pretty, humble, friendly girl who noticed Eya not because of her pretty face, but pretty heart.
The main character, the self-proclaimed ugly girl who owns the diary. She may be grumbling a lot about her ugliness, but I salute her positive thinking, her being strong amidst all the unlucky things she has experienced in life and intelligence (she's a scholar).
If I would be the one to choose the love interest for Eya, it would be this guy. Down to earth, kind, funny, a soccer dude, handsome and treated Eya as a friend despite what she looks like. She calls Eya, "Peppy" because Eya always has this pepper spray on her bag, which I find cute. What more could you ask for? Ha!
A student in Willford Academy who befriended Eya. Everything a girl wants to be. Chad is inlove with her, while she's inlove with Cross, and Cross... hates Eya! But who knows what'll happen on the next novels, right?
Very rich, Spoiled, Bench Model, "Prince Cross" to his fans. He's annoying sometimes actually but there were times in the book that there's good left in his heart.
Despite being predictable, I must say I liked this book because it made me laugh. It entertained me. I am definitely going to buy the next installments!
