From the glittering streets of Manhattan to the moonlit rooftops of Paris, falling in love is easy for hopeless dreamer Isla and introspective artist Josh. But as they begin their senior year in France, Isla and Josh are quickly forced to confront the heartbreaking reality that happily-ever-afters aren’t always forever.
Their romantic journey is skillfully intertwined with those of beloved couples Anna and Étienne and Lola and Cricket, whose paths are destined to collide in a sweeping finale certain to please fans old and new.
I have waited for this book for soo long to come out eversince I have read Anna and the French Kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door. I love the way Stephanie Perkins write. How she makes me as a reader giggle and swoon everytime I read her novels is magic! Also, I find it so sweet that she dedicates all her books to her husband, Jarrod.
When at long last, I got my hands on this novel, I devoured right away. There were two chapters released in NetGalley before this book was published thus resulting to me aching for more. I must say Isla and Josh's story was relatable and very realistic. We all had those boys we are crushing on that we wish were crushing on us too, right? It's really not their first meeting but I loved the first scene wherein they talked in a resto called Kismet. I'm glad Isla had that chance to talk to her crush and observe him face to face.
The story showed how Isla and Josh were art lovers - from comic books of Joann Sfar, to Gaudi the Architect and of course the Metropolitan Art Museum, which were described in detail. I must say I appreciate authors who are including things like this that readers like me can google and see for myself.
The only part I didn't like was when Isla doubted herself, thus resulting to something terrible. I was confused because she was smart, she has a family that loves her and a bestfriend she can always count on, and I don't understand where her insecurities are coming from. Maybe because she was too overwhelmed that after years of crushing on someone, finally, she had the chance to get to know Josh and Josh loving her back.
Anna, Etienne, Meredith, Lola, Cricket, this novel includes a mini reunion and a surprise that I was so happy about. In the end though, again, it has been proven that no matter what happens, if you are meant to be, fate will find a way.
A great read. <3
