Samantha Rousseau is used to getting her hands dirty. Working toward a master’s degree in wildlife biology while helping take care of her sick father, she has no time for celebrity gossip, designer clothes, or lazy vacations. So when a duchess from the small country of Lilaria invites her to dinner, Samantha assumes it’s to discuss a donation for the program. The truth will change the course of her life in ways she never dreamed.
Alex D’Lynsal is trying to keep his name clean. As crown prince of Lilaria, he’s had his share of scandalous headlines, but the latest pictures have sent him packing to America and forced him to swear off women—especially women in the public eye. That is, until he meets Samantha Rousseau. She’s stubborn, feisty, and incredibly sexy. Not to mention heiress to an estate in his country, which makes her everyone’s front-page news.
While Sam tries to navigate the new world of politics and wealth, she will also have to dodge her growing feelings for Alex. Giving in to them means more than just falling in love; it would mean accepting the weight of an entire country on her shoulders.
Before anything else, I wanna say, I LOVED THIS BOOK!
Now let's get to business. The story started as Wildlife Biologist Sam who is leading a very normal life found out she is Royalty, a Duchess. Very Princess Diaries right? It made me think about that too, just the adult version. Since of course, Sam is not used to the glitz and glamour, not to mention his stepfather is sick, she at first didn't see the light in accepting her title. However due to the 'scenes' she was causing at the school where she was working, and the healthcare benefits for her dad, she decided to go back where her ancestors' roots are, Lilaria. Well, I guess Prince Alex's presence is another catch *wink*. She started as this awkward American Duchess, not up to the hype, however as people around her, made sure she feel comfortable and at home, soon she was getting used to it. There were also some steamy scenes that I am sure are not for young adults. On the last few pages, Sam received a very sad news that in turn broke her heart but strengthened her relationship with Alex. And let's say there wouldn't be a Prince if there is no Happy Ending, right? (Spoiler: he did it on bended-knee, classic!).
An interesting main character for me, she's a Wildlife Biologist! You rarely find a main character with that kind of job, and I loved how she is very fond of birds. She is humble and kind, but sometimes can be a little too straightforward for her own good.
Okay, I'm swooning here, tee-hee! Le sigh! He's your dream guy, plus he's a Prince, a noble and down-to-earth one, which I liked the most. He can be very sexy at the right place and time. Another thing that tugged at my heart is when he always made time for Sam, no matter how busy he is, he always made sure he is there when Sam needed him.
Alex's little sister. Super model-like, fashionista and smart.
Sam's personal assistant. The person who'd made Sam realized she should not hold back for her feelings for the Prince.
Jess and Bert.
Sam's bestfriends and housemates.
Lady Rose and Queen Felecia.
Alex's aunt and mother. Very kind earted people.
Patricia and Dean.
Sam's only family when her mother passed away.
Duvall and Becca.
Sam's closest security guards.
I never fall for stories, which started at love at first sight. But this one did. Every scene, every staring contests the main character and her love interest did, I felt it. That's why, when I was halfway through, I already am thinking if the second book is already available. And I'm pretty muc sure I'll be reading Nichole Chase's other novels.
Rating: 4.9 out of 5 Stars (.1 would be for the Lilarian language which wasn't seen on the novel :( )
