I’d lost my job. I’d lost the love of my life. My mum wasn’t talking to me. My best friend was epically pissed off. And my flatmate probably had a hit out on me by now. I never meant for things to get so out of hand…
Tess Brookes has always been a Girl with a Plan. But when her carefully constructed Plan goes belly up, she’s forced to reconsider.
After accidently answering her flatmate Vanessa’s phone, she decides that since being Tess isn’t going so well, why shouldn’t she try out being Vanessa? With nothing left to lose, she accepts Vanessa’s photography assignment to Hawaii – she used to be an amateur snapper, how hard can it be? Right?
But Tess is soon in big trouble – she isn’t a photographer, she isn’t Vanessa, and the gorgeous journalist on the shoot with her, who is making it very clear he’d like to get into her pants, is an egotistical monster.
Far from home and in someone else’s shoes, Tess must decide whether to fight on through, or ‘fess up and run…
The first book of Lindsey Kelk that I have read and reviewed was The Single Girls' To-Do List, which I found really awesome! Anyways, I was in a reading slump the past few days when I saw that Lindsey's new book 'What A Girl Wants' is coming out. Since it is already a sequel, and since About A Girl has been on my TBR file for a couple of months now, I decided to read it first.
I'm not sure if it's a good thing but I like stories that are the usual, meaning the main character, named Tess is this perfectionist corporate junkie who doesn't realize she isn't happy with her life not until she lost her job, fought with her mom and shagged her boy best friend. The only person she has left is best girlfriend Amy who was always to the rescue.
I admit, if I were in her situation,I wouldn't have the guts to do what she did and take her room mate's identity and fly to Hawaii but I'm glad she did. She's my idol! Thanks to Vanessa aka the witch for a roommate for the 'opportunity'.
Spoiler : No,there isn't a happy ending yet because best boyfriend Charlie only sees her as a friend. During the Hawaii part, I loved how the story went. Starting from her meeting Nick, Paige, Kekepi, Al. Each one of them was a character. I loved that Kekepi was sort of Tess' fairy gayfather in which he would setup dates or take her out to paint the town red at the exact time Tess needed it. I liked Paige, her being the 'not-so-evil' queen of the story. I think Tess and Paige are going to be good friends. Of course, Al Benett, whom I could picture out too as Father Christmas. I loved how he just pops out of nowhere and give his words of wisdom. And let's not forget, hot Nick Miller who is the I-wanna-show-people-I'm-a-bad-boy-but-I'm-actually-not type of guy.
I know Charlie Wilder is a sweetheart, the bestfriend, and the boy-next-door type whomI fell inlove with too during the first part if the novel. However, I choose to be team Nick-Tess (yes, I was picturing out Zooey Deschanel Jake Johnson thewhole time I was reading because of New Girl) and because Nick is the one who saw how amazing Tess is,and she deserves that.
l really loved this book, I really loved Lindsey's writing style and I really hope Tess picks Nick on What A Girl Wants!
